Latest Digi iPhone plan

Here is it. After figuring out for few hours, I finally understand the new iPhone 3GS plan offered by Digi. As you all know, the new iPhone 4 was released a few weeks back and it has been a hit. Demands were more than production units. Well, I am waiting for mine. Hopefully. HAHA. Well, as you all know I am using an iPhone 3GS from Digi as well. This post is not to talk bad about Digi.

It is more of helping users understand the way the market revolve and different marketing strategy is done to pull people into buying or selling something. Well, it is part of life. So here is Digi new iPhone 3GS plan. So as you can see from the link, you can see monthly fee being cut from 89(iDigi88) a month to 60 and 138(iDigi138) a month to 90. As you scroll down further, you see the phone price being cut as well. Sounds Good?

Here is the deal.

We take iDigi88. Now reduced to RM60
Saving RM88 – RM60 = RM 28 x 24 months = RM 672.00!

So that means you will be saving Rm 672. So far so good?

With iDigi88, the 3GS 32GB price is RM1,790

But when you click the payment page. You can see that

You will be paying RM 2462 for the plan for iphone 3GS 32GB when you subscribe with Digi using a credit card/cash.
If you subtract RM 2462 from the iPhone 3GS price which I mention earlier, RM 1790
You will get a total of Rm 672!

So where does this RM 672 come from? Well it is from the 672 which you saved from plan cost.

In simpler terms, the discount that Digi offered is actually not a discount. You pay the Rm 672 as discount upfront which is included in the total of RM 2462. They want to make you think that you are actually paying the iDigi 88(Rm88) plan for a cheaper price.

You are bound for 24 months contract when you buy from Digi.

Overall, you are actually paying the same price as the previous price before offered by Digi.
It is like 1+1+6=8 and 1+1+(2×3)=8.

Edited:

One of my readers told me they didn’t understand the plan after reading
So here is a simpler format. I tried my best for you guys to understand
If you still don’t feel free to comment below or read my reply to Kevin Tan. :)

Previously :
RM1590 + RM88 x 24 = RM3702

Now :
RM2062 + RM60 x 24 = RM3502

I don't really get it. Just to mention IMO they haven't changed the price on the 'payment options' page. Just a thought though.

If it has already been changed, then thanks for the information (:

Well, how can they change change the plan price+phone price and not the full payment price? :)

Might be something they overlooked. Tweet them up and clarify? :P that'll give us a clear guideline as to go for or avoid this plan altogether. (:

Calvin: Well, I already know about it. No point tweeting them and asking. In the end they won't give a free phone or free calls for life. I just do this post to help those who plan to get from DiGi. :)

    @Anonymous: No problem dude!

That table is not new price for iphone instead they told me is the amount u save with digi if u subscribe their phone with plan. But then look carefully on their presentation, there is a saving with digi with an amount of "FREE"?? wat is tat?

Digi tweet me to explain the saving calculation & it shown below:-
    Savings = RRP iPhone price – subsidized amt fr iPhone – subsidized amt fr plan. e.g. 32GB w/iDiGi138:2990 – (2990 – 2542) – (48 x 24)=RM1390
But then, the whole interpretation of the calculation is WRONG!! coz the RM1390 is the RPP iphone after subsidies not SAVING!! the saving amount is RM1600. Digi is having a mistake in presenting the price and it’s confusing & misleading. How to interpret u save with digi with an amount of “FREE” under iphone 3G 8GB with iDigi 238 plan! Digi marketing is not doing a good job!
Last nite i went to digi outlet to clarify it and the sales person was not able to answer my Q even the digi tweeter aso cant answer it! Digi new marketing strategy really disappoint me lo~~coz the payment scheme doesnt reflect the saving!

About the FREE, I am not sure. Maybe is like you spend more and you get to get to buy something at a cheaper price or free.

To make things easier, the below table allows you to see everything easily.
They basically let you save 200 or around there.
    Previously :
    RM1590 + RM88 x 24 = RM3702

    Now :
    RM2062 + RM60 x 24 = RM3502

You see the Digi plan and the thing they strike off is lowering the price and not discount. What they did was lowering the amount to be paid monthly by making you pay the difference when you sign up.

In simpler words, they are collecting the money(advance payment) without telling you.

To top it all, DiGi only lowered the price by 200 and the DiGi plan is THE SAME as you already payed the difference in plan pricing when you sign up. It is not discount given by DiGi.

There are a few ways of getting the phone with the payment method. Depends on how much you are willing to fork out and stay with their contract. :)
